The parameters for the art are:

  • 5”x5”x.5” & 1 lb or less on any type of substrate (Wood, canvas, paper, glass, clay, metal, etc).

  • Leaf themed or leaf shaped (artist choice), in any medium or genre. That means even if you are a type of artists that isn’t generally associated with a 3 dimensional, visual representation, we want your art. As long as you can submit it on one of the above mentioned substrates.

  • All artwork needs to be double sided, weather proofed, and must contain a 3/8" diameter hole in the orientation you want it hung. 

  • The actual art, to be hung on the tree, must be submitted to the project. Pictures alone are not sufficient.

  • A maximum of 3 pieces may be accepted for each artist, each with its own fee.

  • Art that is deemed offensive, sloppy, or poorly executed may be rejected.

  • If a piece is rejected, the artist may resubmit for no additional fee. All rejected art will be returned. Accepted art will be hung on the tree for display.

The project is juried, primarily to provide constructive feedback for those that are not familiar with a jury process. Jurors will not know the name of the artist. Some consideration will be given to the form and composition of the art submitted, both individually and for the project as a whole. The jury fee is $10 for students, with a high school or college ID, and $15 for adults. Limited scholarships may be available to those in need. Email to inquire. The jury fee goes towards funding the project and is due by cash or check, made out to Whatcom Art Guild, when you turn in your art. Any funds left over will go towards scholarships Whatcom Art Guild grants to WWU and WCC art students.

Art will be collected at the Whatcom Art Market, 1103 11th St, Bellingham, WA 98225, between 4 and 6 PM, every other Weds. Other collection times will be announced via the website and Facebook. Like the Facebook page to receive automatic notifications. Art will be accepted until the tree is full. All accepted art is a gift and will become the property of the project. It will not be for sale, but will be displayed on the tree. In the event that the art is rejected, or the project is not completed, the art will be returned. Art will be reviewed by the jury throughout the submission time. Some art may be accepted right away, other art may be held for additional review. You will be notified when the decision is made.

Artists will be promoted via our Facebook pageInstagram and, if accepted, during the reveal ceremony, subsequent displays, and after final placement. By submitting your art you give BeLEAF in Whatcom Art permission to use your name, submitted art, any social media profiles you provide, and artist picture/art you provide or is present on the social media accounts you list on the application. We want to promote you! Make it easy on us by giving as much information as possible, including all your ongoing accomplishments. All personal information will be kept confidential and will not be given or sold to a 3rd party.
